Through the gentle prompting of the Holy Spirit and the not-so-subtle nudging of a dear friend & mentor, the idea for a ladies’ meeting grew to be There’s Joy in the Camp. Of all the things I learned from Kyla Rowland, the importance of urging women into the closet of prayer is chief among them. So, in 2009 when I began to feel that prompting from the Holy Spirit to begin a ladies’ meeting in my home
state of Alabama, earnestly praying and seeking God was naturally the first step. Then I broached the subject with my dear friend,
Miss Kyla. Her sincerity about the tremendous need for ladies’ meetings and her continued support encouraged
me to step out in faith and begin planning.
From humble beginnings, this meeting continued to grow each year. We’ve watched as God helped many women find exactly what they needed at an altar of prayer. While sick and hospitalized, Kyla called my name saying, “Glenda Sue, There’s still work to do.” She repeated it again when our friends, Ruby and Thomasa called us that afternoon and insisted, “Girls. there’s still work to do.” There are still mothers with prodigal children, wives who are trying to hold onto a marriage that’s falling apart, and young women who are seeking God’s will for their lives. Women who are hurting, caught up in sin, or who feel abandoned and abused, and they all need a touch from the Savior as well as the support of other Christian women who will hold them up in prayer. Yes, there’s still so much work to do. In 2023, we are moving There’s Joy in the Camp from Alabama to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to make it more accessible for others to attend.
Many a weary soldier holds her post on the battlefield. Watching for the enemy. Staving off his attacks through prayer and standing on the Word of God. But there comes a time when we are called back to the camp for a time of rest. A time of peace. We gather and begin to share stories of the battles He’s brought us through. We testify of the miraculous things we’ve seen God do. Praise begins to flow. Hearts are encouraged. Help is received. We look around and find that there is, in fact, Joy in the Camp.
